"McLane girls volleyball team goes far" ...Nov 12. 2008
Mention the phrases "General McLane" and "state title run" this time of year and area sports fans automatically think of football. Not so fast. Last week, it was the McLane girls volleyball team that competed in the PIAA Class AA tournament. Coached by Mike Merriam, the Lancers participated in state play for the first time since the 2001 season after winning a District 10 title for the first time since 1982. McLane began the tournament with a 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 25-11 victory over Laurel Highlands at Penn State Behrend's Junker Center. Junior hitter Courtney Lydick totaled 18 kills over four sets and senior setter Rachael Ruscitto had 26 assists. The Lancers advanced to Friday's pool play at Central York High School, where their season ended with losses to Susquehannock (25-21, 25-23, 25-20), Hopewell (25-18, 25-11, 25-19) and Holy Redeemer (25-11, 25-16, 25-20).
Lydick and Ruscitto were among the players who helped McLane finish with an overall record of 21-4.
Congrats Rach for selection to the D-10 Senior All-Stars.
